Om Polizzi Generosa

Polizzi Generosa is situated on a small plateau, 900 m above sea level, with a view of the relatively fertile Imera valley, some 25 km to the south of the city of Cefalů on the north coast of Siciliens. Between the two lies the Parco delle Madonie national park. Polizzi Generosa was founded in the 11th century and has today about 4500 inhabitants.

Famous people and curiosites:

• author Giuseppe Antonio Borgese was born and lived in Polizzi
• fashion designer Domenico Dolce (as in Dolce&Gabbana) was born and raised in Polizzi
• the movie L'Uomo Delle Stelle by Giuseppe Tornatore was filmed in Polizzi and the neighbouring town of Castelbuono (in the movie, Domenico Dolce can be seen as a farmer, sitting on a bus)
• actor Vincent Schiavelli's grandfather was from Polizzi and Schiavelli therefore spent a lot of time in the town, until his death in 2005; he also wrote the books "Many Beautiful Things" and "Papa Andrea's Sicilian Table Remembrances", with recipies and stories from Polizzi; the documentary Once Upon a Time in Polizzi follows Schiavelli as he visits Polizzi
• movie director Martin Scorseses is notfrom Polizzi, but his parents are
• a special album with famous the comic character Lazarus Ledd is dedicated to Polizzi Generosa
